Daniel Kleederman
After a half-decade as a dedicated collaborator, lead guitarist, and music director for indie darling Bartees Strange, where he “help[ed] redefine the sound of indie rock for the 2020s” (Rock n’ Roll Globe), Daniel Kleederman chose to let go of the festival lights and international tours to bring his attention to his own music and path. Releasing Another Life, his debut LP, featured as one of NPR’s “Best New Albums” during its release week in early April, was his first order of business. The record, a heartful journey through the depths of love and loss, is a “genre-bending lesson in songwriting.” Says Jammerzine, “Every song has a distinct sound while, collectively, making sense in that we are hearing the emergence of a new and original artist. This, to me, is a breath of fresh air in the indie music world...You will find a favorite track on ‘Another Life’, and that track will change from time to time...you will listen again, and again, because this is an album that is as interesting as it is memorable.”
Often drawing comparisons to Jeff Buckley with his emotive, rangy falsetto in toe, Kleederman’s song explorations are grounded first and foremost by his formative relationship with the guitar. Anyone who sees Daniel Kleederman perform understands his intimate and loving relationship to his instrument; in his hands, the guitar appears both an extension of self and a portal to other worlds. Kleederman’s friendship with the guitar remains a timeless force, ever-present in his current work, on and off stage.
Daniel is thrilled to be recording and performing new music with his longtime collaborators, Chris Connors and Alex Goldberg, at Studio 9 this February. Before settling into life in New York and on the road, he grew up in Williamstown, MA, where, amongst his Dad’s guitars and record collection, he found himself walking along the musical path. During the heart of the pandemic, that path circled back home to the Berkshires, where he recorded an EP, entitled Grand Kid, and found himself connecting to his home environment in new and profound ways. This new batch of songs, while continuing to explore similar questions and answers from Another Life and Grand Kid, further ground themselves, both sonically and lyrically, in the natural landscape; he is honored to create and share this exploration in the foothills of the Berkshires.
